drought of twenty-twelve

three days in, clearing
out the rental house
in the hundred plus
drought of twenty-twelve
and coughing gravel,
I judged the departed
by each deserted
landslide
and dusty dogma

dead husband, childless
bad eyes and bad wrist
had been her free vacation
pass to the land of
milk and honey

there probably was
divination, there
in the hanky wads
and stained aprons
rusty keys and
mouse turds
or just maybe there is
no master plan
after all
